The family was rich, famous, and active in politics.
There does seem to be an erroneous tendency to equate power, politics and riches to heroism. One definition of a hero is a person who has had outstanding achievements, and in that regard, the Breitung family certainly qualifies. But other definitions of heroes include those showing courage, or having noble qualities.
As will be seen in this book, the Breitung family was truly exceptional in many ways; however, this was in both positive and negative senses. They were often quite infamous, and scandalous.
