Amanda is a student of engineering at the university. She attends a lecture by a clever guest speaker. She finds him attractive and impressive. He invites her to spend some time with him. After earning her degree she finds a position with a company of inventors, and invents a watch, which beeps when it detects a lie. These watches are best-sellers. However people soon find these watches point out that most people lie. Fear grips every one, and they stop communicating with all others including their friends and relatives. This creates havoc and society is on the verge of collapse. Amanda marries a young dedicated engineer.
