U.S. Marshal Clay McLane has decided to retire after the next assignment and become a full-time rancher with his partner, retired Pinkerton Agent, Duncan (Dunk) Bledsoe. Deborah Dawn Strong has returned from finishing school to be with her parents, Randall and Geneva Strong, owners of a gold mine and property that borders with Clay and Duncan's ranch. A stalker soon begins following Deborah. Randall and Al Donovan, Deborah's uncle, asks Clay to investigate the stalker. Feelings begin to develop between Clay and Deborah during this time. Just before Clay leaves for his last assignment that involves going after a dangerous and ruthless killer, the stalker is caught letting Clay leave knowing Deborah would be safe after declaring his love for her. Clay joins U.S. Marshal Big Mike Reynolds to track and capture the outlaw, The Kid. The Kid and his gang robbed a bank and senselessly killed the customers inside the bank. After many weeks of tracking that turns into several months, Clay and Big Mike find The Kid and the men with him in the Indian Territory. Even in their surprise of coming into the outlaws' camp, The Kid escapes and Clay follows him in the dark moving cautiously but The Kid knocks Clay down from behind causing Clay to lose his rifle. The Kid stands over Clay with his pistol and Clay is helpless to defend himself. Bragging what he will do to Clay, the Kid begins to shoot his arms and then his legs but misses each shot. In frustration, he points his gun at Clay's chest and begins to pull the trigger. Can Big Mike find Clay and The Kid after hearing the first shots and stop The Kid from killing Clay? Clay had made up his mind that he will ask Deborah to marry him after this job, but will he now not be able to fulfill his dreams of marrying Deborah?
