It took years to recover and for her to learn how to value herself without wanting the approval of outside sources. She wanted to tell her story, in a way that would show others that they are not alone. Unapologetically she shows her flaws, her strengths and her transition to the person she is today. She would not allow herself to be ostracized into muteness. Knowing not everyone speaks about his or her abuse, often because of shame, embarrassment, or isolation. Finally free is a condensed autobiography, and story of perseverance written in poem form. We are not victims of our past, but survivors of our future.
