Determined to find a better life, Kaylee runs away, searching for Freedom Hold. There, she meets Gillis and together they hatch a plan to free Kaylee's family, and their entire world. In doing so they change the lives of all the spacefaring races in the galaxy. Langons invaded Kaylee's world one hundred twenty years ago. Although much of the world is still reasonably free, the Cadorie living in the mining colonies are slaves to the Langons. The Cadorie are small, furry, and value the natural world. Langons are technologically advanced, self-centered, and inconsiderate.
