The technological aspects of mobile multimedia are described in this elaborative book. Multimedia mobiles such as smart phones and tablets are fast becoming popular among all ages as their day-to-day computing devices. Users have started to expect multimedia applications and services to run smooth and high-quality at par with desktop experience. The biggest challenge in providing multimedia to mobile devices using the Internet is to ensure a quality experience that meets the expectations of the users within reasonable costs and supporting heterogeneous platforms and wireless network conditions. The purpose of this book is to provide a comprehensive overview of the current and future technologies used for providing high-quality mobile multimedia applications, with emphasis on user experience as the first priority. It discusses the challenges in mobile video delivery as one of the most bandwidth-intensive media which demands pleasant rate of streaming and a user-centric strategy to ensure quality experience. It deals with this challenge by introducing significant concepts for future mobile multimedia coding and the network technologies to deliver quality services. It also brings together user and technology viewpoints by demonstrating how user experience can be evaluated using case studies on urban community interfaces and Internet telephones.
