Tepid Hullias is a humorous novel that does not hide a certain melancholy. It makes us see how far the choices we make can take us, and also what we do not choose and what is given to us. It is written with a firm pulse and an excellent narrative sense.
The style is direct and accessible and the reading is very enjoyable. There is a lot of irony and cynicism, and even a certain surrealism, in all its pages. There is also an evident, and refreshing, demystification of the noir novel.
I lit a cigarette to calm my anxiety about the imminent meeting with Sasca. The sun was languishing. Autumn was well advanced, but it was not cold. In the street of the Lonely Hearts, there was not a soul. After only a few minutes of waiting, a female figure appeared. My heart skipped a beat; it could be her, even though it was ten minutes before the appointed time. I watched her carefully as she approached, and I did not recognize her.
