The scripture text above encapsulates what should be the disposition and mindset of believers to the service of the kingdom. The Christian faith is founded on the sacrificial work of Christ on the cross of Calvary.
Christ took our place in suffering so that we can take His place in glory. He suffered as a criminal, not for His own sins, but for the sin of all humanity. God gave Him up sacrificially for our redemption and He accepted to bear the cross.
The early apostles and pioneer Christians also suffered the same fate. They were imprisoned, tortured, beaten, stricken, and murdered in a terrible manner. Their lives were poured out drinks for the sake of the kingdom.
The church had gone through different shades of persecution and affliction.
The blood of many Christians has been shed for the spread of the gospel.
In this contemporary time, we are faced with the same attacks against the gospel of Christ. Killings, maiming, kidnapping, and other forms of persecution of the church of Christ pervade our land. Our response should not be anything less than the response of Christ and of the
Apostles. We must be ready to pay and make the necessary sacrifice for the sake of the kingdom. Our commitment to the cross of Jesus as a soldier of Christ must remain unflinching even in the face of intense persecution.
This book calls to our consciousness the sacrificial work of Christ for our salvation and the perilous labor of the apostles and many believers for the spread of the gospel of the kingdom. The big question then is, "What sacrifices are we making now for the sake of the kingdom?"
