David Walker was a young black man born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts to a free woman of color. In 1829 David Walker stumbled upon a scene in the deep south that would forever traumatize his mind, soul and spirit. His very psyche was irreparably damaged by the horrible event he witnessed that day. The event stood out in his mind until he could not hold his tongue not one minute longer; what came next was the creation of the first Black Newspaper. With every penny, he had he founded -Freedoms Journal where he wrote a series of articles he called Appeals to his colored brethren. His first Appeal if compared with today's modern day social media events, went viral. After the Journals surprising rise in popularity Walker again returns to the south going deeper and deeper into its seething den of horror and torture after every issue is met with even more popularity than the previous issues. Walker Chronicles chronologizes everything David Walker sees, hears and experiences during his journeys south giving rise to yet another Appeal to which he again writes to his enslaved brothers. He asks the readers of the Journal to spread copies of the article to every black person they meet, and if that person is a free man or slave but cannot read to tell them of his Appeals. One of the first most successful media event ever was spread by voice, and the written word, sewn into pleats, tucked into the linings of top hats and smuggled onto plantations, and into slave cabins were shared and read with as much reverence as the Bible. All in all, David Walker wrote 4 Appeals all of which quadrupled in number as each went viral, copied and shared repeatedly touching the hearts and minds of both Blacks, and Whites, Men, and Women. You know the famous names such as Harriet Tubman, Nat Turner, John Brown, and oh so many more, effectively sparking the mass slave revolts that erupted in the south that brought fear into thousands of Lillie white plantation owners and their white privileged families, but for millions of slaves, it fueled the fires of desire for those held against their will in the hated and dreaded Confederate south, for Freedom!
