When Jo's marriage turns out to be a scam, it leaves her devastated. With help from her sister and her attorney, Jo rids herself of an unwanted business and sets in motion a series of events that will hamper her husband's desire to be wealthy. Determined to get her life back on track, Jo heads for parts unknown, looking for the perfect place to call home. After a hike to see a tourist attraction, Jo realises that her excess weight hampers the lifestyle she would like to lead. When she comes across advertisements for a health resort, Jo spends a month working on becoming healthier and shedding excess weight. After she postpones her trip, intent on making changes to her life, it comes as a shock to learn that her husband, who has threatened revenge, has found her haven. Pushing on with her quest, Jo eventually finds a place to call home. After a rocky start, all appears to be well. Jo fits into the small community by working as a nanny for an acquaintance. Her friendship with a married man causes gossip, and Jo finds herself at loggerheads with large sections of the community. When things unravel, Jo is left vulnerable and defenceless against her husband's bullying behaviour.
