Instead they sent kids to Rayas, age 10-16. They trained en route using an advanced learning AI, the Dream.
Its graduates turned out a little...squirrelly.
Captain Sass Collier, still lacking a spaceship, is offered the chance to found the Colony Corps Academy. As Chief Space Officer, Ben Acosta hopes to train crews cheaply and quickly on the promising Dream technology. First step, they visit Rayas to perform their due diligence.
Sass's Lunar lover Gabe eagerly hosts as salesman in chief.
The trip also gives Ben a chance to evaluate how Sass is coming along on her judgment calls. Because if Luna taught them anything...
