Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. A unary function is a function that takes one argument. In computer science, a unary operator is a subset of unary function. Many of the elementary functions are unary functions, in particular the trigonometric functions and hyperbolic function are unary. An elementary function is a function built from a finite number of exponentials, logarithms, constants, one variable, and nth roots through composition and combinations using the four elementary operations (+ - × ÷). By allowing these functions (and constants) to be complex numbers, trigonometric functions and their inverses are included in the elementary functions (see Trigonometric function#Relationship to exponential function and complex numbers).
